Greenscape Inc., a commercial landscape company based in the Triangle, needed an interim HR director, and they were scrambling to find the right person quickly. CEO Daniel Currin reached out to an associate for a recommendation, and when he heard resounding praise for Ann Close at Close HR Connections, he realized he’d already been impressed by Ann earlier at a business presentation.
Ann came in for several months to support Greenscape’s HR department, providing the stopgap they needed to keep the people side of the business running seamlessly. She did a little bit of everything, reports Currin. Ann joined the leadership team as head of HR during that time, helping them through some difficult employee and compliance situations. In addition, she was instrumental in the successful implementation of a new payroll system. Greenscape’s 200+ employees never missed a paycheck, which, according to Currin, was no small feat.
What makes Ann Close and Close HR Connections stand out? “It may sound trite,” says Daniel, “but Ann is a really good person. She does a lot of things very well, and she gave my team a lot of confidence to move forward with business plans and decision-making.”
“We’re in the people business, and HR is vital. Ann has that ability to interact with a leadership team really well, and she can also get down in the weeds and have direct conversations with employees when needed. She executed the HR activities that needed to be done. She very quickly shored up and stabilized us at the leadership level and every level. Ann and her team helped us recruit and select our new HR person, and they still stay in touch. There’s no competition – they communicate regularly.”
Would Greenscape Inc. call on Close HR in the future? “I could definitely see it,” muses Currin. “We’re growing, and it could be beneficial to utilize them for extra support for scaling up or various special projects. I’d look forward to working with them again.”
