Dallas Bonavita is the Executive Director of Note in the Pocket, a non-profit organization addressing clothing security in the Triangle. She was introduced to Ann Close in 2017 when Ann came highly recommended to her as a future board member.
“Once Ann heard about what Note in the Pocket does, she was on board,” said Dallas. “From the perspective of a board member, Ann helped us add and improve many HR policies and procedures that were needed for our growing organization.”
After six years of serving on the board, Ann completed her two terms and stepped down. Close HR stepped in professionally to assist with HR services, including executive position searches, employee benefits, and being a listening ear.
“The Close HR team is always willing to answer questions, troubleshoot, and let you think things through,” said Dallas. “If I ask for Ann’s advice, then I know I’m going to get best practices on how to manage these situations. Her answer always has everyone’s best interest in mind.”
The Close HR team’s involvement has helped Dallas develop personally and professionally. “I started out as a full-time volunteer before I became the first paid executive director,” she said. “Note in the Pocket took on a life of its own, and suddenly I had a full-time job and a new non-profit career. Ann has helped me grow and understand things from an HR perspective, like multiple ways to see staff personalities and manage conflict.”
As Note in the Pocket expands, Close HR helps Dallas and her team stay on top of HR issues. “We’re always asking what we should be doing next as our organization grows,” said Dallas. “For example, you want to make sure your employees are paid fair market value, but you’re also strained as a non-profit. Close HR is always pushing us in the right direction to be where we need to be. They help us provide the best workplace for our employees to be happy and healthy.”
Dallas loves how Close HR feels like part of Note in the Pocket team. “We have worked with everyone at Close HR at some point or another,” she said. “Ann has built a strong team. Everyone has the best heart. When the Close HR staff conducts interviews for us, and they say, ‘We at Note in the Pocket …,’ it’s reassuring in a very sweet way. They come alongside Note in the Pocket as part of our team, and we consider them part of our team, as well.”
